Flame-Retardant PP Corrugated Sheets: Lightweight, Durable and Customizable

Date:2026-10-14 16:56:40

Flame-retardant PP corrugated sheets are specially formulated polypropylene hollow sheets designed to reduce flammability while retaining the practical advantages of conventional PP corrugated boards. By incorporating flame-retardant additives into the polypropylene material, these sheets can achieve improved flame-retardant performance while remaining lightweight, durable and easy to fabricate.

At Mantis, we manufacture customized PP corrugated sheets for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. Depending on your project requirements, we can discuss suitable material formulations, thicknesses, grammages, colors and sheet dimensions to help you find the right solution.

Key Features and Advantages

1. Flame-Retardant Performance

Our flame-retardant PP corrugated sheets can be developed for different flame-retardant requirements. The appropriate formulation and performance level depend on the intended application and the required testing standard.

2. Lightweight Yet Durable

The hollow twin-wall structure provides a practical balance between weight, rigidity and durability, making the sheets convenient to handle, transport, cut and fabricate.

3. Moisture and Corrosion Resistance

Polypropylene offers good resistance to moisture and many common chemicals, making these sheets suitable for a variety of industrial environments. Chemical compatibility should be confirmed for specific applications.

4. Easy to Process and Customize

The sheets can be customized in terms of thickness, grammage, dimensions and color. Depending on the product specification, further processing options may include die-cutting, folding, printing and fabrication into protective packaging or components.

5. Multiple Industrial Applications

Their combination of lightweight construction, moisture resistance and customizable flame-retardant performance makes them a versatile option for industrial packaging, equipment protection and other applications where specific fire-performance requirements apply.

Flame-Retardant Grades and Standards

The required flame-retardant grade is an important consideration when selecting PP corrugated sheets. Two commonly referenced standards are UL 94 and EN 13501-1.

UL 94 Flammability Classification

UL 94 evaluates the flammability of plastic materials under specified laboratory test conditions. Common vertical-burning classifications include:

  • UL 94 V-0: The material must meet the standard's more stringent afterflame-time requirements, with no flaming drips that ignite the cotton indicator.

  • UL 94 V-1: Allows longer afterflame times than V-0, with the same restriction on flaming drips igniting the cotton indicator.

  • UL 94 V-2: Has similar afterflame-time limits to V-1 but permits flaming drips that ignite the cotton indicator.

V-0 generally represents the most stringent performance of these three vertical-burning classifications. The actual result depends on factors such as specimen thickness and material formulation.

EN 13501-1 European Reaction-to-Fire Classification

For projects in Europe, customers may require a classification such as B-s1,d0. This classification combines three performance indicators:

  • B: The principal reaction-to-fire class.

  • s1: The lowest smoke-production category within the s1–s3 scale.

  • d0: No flaming droplets or particles are observed within the standard's specified test period.

EN 13501-1 classification depends on the tested product configuration, including relevant mounting and end-use conditions. A UL 94 rating does not automatically establish an equivalent EN 13501-1 classification.

The required grade should therefore be confirmed against the applicable test report and the intended end use.

Typical Applications

1. Industrial Packaging and Transportation

Flame-retardant PP corrugated sheets can be considered for protective packaging, separators, dividers and custom-fabricated packaging components used in industrial supply chains.

2. Electronics and Electrical Equipment

Depending on the required specification, they may be used for protective separators, component packaging and selected non-structural parts associated with electrical or electronic equipment.

3. Machinery and Equipment Protection

Customized sheets can be used as protective covers, internal dividers and temporary barriers around equipment, provided the selected product meets the relevant fire and mechanical requirements.

4. Automotive and Industrial Components

Potential applications include selected non-structural protective panels, packaging inserts and interior-related components, subject to the applicable automotive or industry-specific requirements.

5. Temporary Protection and Partitioning

The sheets may be suitable for temporary protective panels and partitions in industrial settings when their tested fire performance and installation conditions meet the project's requirements.

Customized Flame-Retardant Solutions from Mantis

Different applications require different combinations of flame-retardant performance, rigidity, weight and fabrication characteristics. Rather than selecting a grade based on its name alone, we recommend confirming the intended use and the applicable standard before finalizing the specification.

At Mantis, we can discuss your requirements for:

  • Flame-retardant grade and applicable testing standard

  • Sheet thickness and grammage

  • Dimensions and color

  • Printing and further fabrication

  • Sample evaluation and product testing

Whether you need flame-retardant PP corrugated sheets for industrial packaging, equipment protection or a specialized project, our team is ready to discuss a suitable customized solution.
